As shared in episode 5 of the “One Cigarette” series on the Easy Knowledge Channel, after a painful loss on the forex market, I, The Fool, lost the entire profit of my company back in 2022.
After that, I fell into a severe psychological crisis and dealt with Anxiety Disorder for several months.
My Anxiety Disorder kept getting worse because I couldn’t overcome the tangled mess of emotions swirling through my thoughts:
- Why is it that during the same crisis, some people can earn billions and support their families, while I failed like this?
- Why did I nearly lose everything all at once?
- Why can people who exploit scandals for fame, creating “trashy” content, so easily win widespread support — while my genuine efforts to build content ended in such a shocking failure?
…
I tried many ways to make my thinking more positive, and by chance I came across a book that helped change that: “Balancing Your Emotions Through the Storm,” which had a few quotes that made me realize things and become more resilient about my upcoming goals in rebuilding Big E Co.
- If you keep comparing yourself to people you consider talented, you’ll only ever see yourself as worthless.
Truthfully, driven by a desire to get rich quickly and achieve what talented people achieve — earning billions even during a financial crisis like this one — I rushed into the world of forex investing with very little experience, and made mistakes. At the time, I hadn’t stopped to think:
— What did they go through to reach that kind of success, and how long did they try?
— What was their family situation and financial resources like, what assets did their business have, and how did that help them stay afloat through the storm?
— What knowledge did they equip themselves with to avoid getting caught in a financial spiral?
Those very questions pushed me to go learn from them through events and workshops, and to work harder at building my knowledge of business financial management — eventually putting together a basic revenue–cost–profit table for my own company, thanks to the knowledge from this book.
- At certain points, everything in your hands can suddenly vanish — you can’t change what happened, but you can change how you receive it.
This quote made me realize that everything we lose has a reason. Instead of sitting in a corner, sulking, and dragging myself into an even worse state, why not go find the root cause of the failure and try to fix it?
- No one bathes in the same river twice — so treat this loss as a lesson learned, so you won’t fall into the same trap and lose financially again.
- If I get to know another woman next, I’ll listen and care for her more, so I don’t repeat the same mistakes as before.
- I’ll learn to care more about my family, try to notice when they’re struggling, and be there to support and help them more.
• Effort isn’t for others to see and acknowledge — you can pretend to fool other people, but you can never fool yourself.
This line made me question myself a lot — my direction wasn’t wrong, but was my effort genuine enough?
