Video Lesson: The 4U in Marketing Through the Movie “Eyes of Innocence”

As some of you may already know, our Business Corner channel recently published an article explaining marketing in the simplest everyday terms, along with the 4U in Marketing. Below, we’ll illustrate this lesson through the movie “Eyes of Innocence” (Mắt Biếc). Let’s explore it together!

1. The character Ngạn “Eyes of Innocence” sells but doesn’t understand his customer:

The character Ngạn holds on to every memory of himself and Hà Lan from their old village of Đo Đo. But Ngạn never realizes that Hà Lan’s small preferences have changed once she set foot in the bustling city. She’s no longer the Hà Lan who loved little clay toys and butterfly hair clips — yet Ngạn still thinks she is.

What Hà Lan actually wants now is to go flying in a plane — that childhood stuff is long gone, Ngạn, it’s time to grow up.

2. Worse still, Ngạn never studies his competitor (the 2nd U) before competing, and doesn’t understand himself (the 3rd U) enough to build a concrete plan to win Hà Lan over.

The Fool once made a clip called “Competitor” on the Easy Knowledge Channel, mentioning the line: “Our biggest competitor is ourselves.” This implies that after completing the 2nd U — “Understanding your competitor” — you need to know who you’re up against.

Once you thoroughly understand who your competitor is, you can learn from their strengths and apply those lessons to improve yourself and get better sales results.

Here, instead of tracking down Dũng, picking a fight, getting beaten up, and then showing up in front of Hà Lan as a loser, Ngạn should have explored the CITY that Hà Lan loved, learned more about it, and taken her to more special spots in this new land — instead of endlessly insisting that “Đo Đo is everything” to him.

Ngạn’s mistake was failing to see things from another person’s perspective, sticking to only his own point of view — which led to his failure in winning Hà Lan over. Meanwhile Dũng, a city native, knew the beautiful spots and took her there.

13. Ngạn also fails at the final U (Understanding Targets and Goals)

The Fool’s final word to our collaborators: understand your customer clearly before choosing a product to sell through our collaborator group. If you’re not sure yet, you’ll be trained by staff from the companies and shops partnered with us (training sessions or clips are only opened to members).
